La Vie En Rose has been performed in every possible way by just about everyone on the planet and has been inspiring people to move in many different ways. I wouldn't be surprised if one day it's actually found in the human genome. Here's a dozen roses from the Youtube flower garden! I hope they all load onto the page.
Mike Long, aka " dipsetmuthafucka" on Youtube, is a multi talented guy with a great outlook on life. He's a musician, a comedian, and a video artist who also loves to dance. He's quite a fantastic dancer, and has recently completed a year long Youtube "tour de force" in which he videotaped himself dancing to a variety of classic dance tunes in various public places around his home of Hamilton, Ontario Canada. He videotaped a different dance every day for an entire year. It's a Youtube masterpiece!
Kim Fowley - "The Trip" "Up on the brow again with Mike Long, this time he's kicking it to some psych from the managerial master, Kim Fowley. Let's all take a trip together, just put your head back..." Thanks dipsetmuthafucka Break it out!
The fact that he was able to produce a complete dance video every single day is quite an accomplishment in itself, but in addition to that the videos are really well produced. Most of the videos are shot in a single take with the camera on a well placed tripod that frames the dancing perfectly. This technique eliminates the distraction of changing scenes and really showcases the dancing. I think it's a much better way to show dancing than the more traditional fast cut music video style that is usually seen in bigger budget productions. Those videos are also great, but tend to show off the skills of the filmmakers more than the artists. You can't fake anything in a one shot video!
Mike has great taste in music and has chosen an eclectic variety of memorable dance tunes that transcend any genre boundaries. He dances to the song on location, and then dubs the clean track onto the video in post production. This guarantees good quality sound which usually is a great enhancement to a location dance performance. The ambient noises and tinny sound that usually go along with location dance performances can be annoying and distracting from the action.
Nervous Breakdown - "I Dig Your Mind" "..."My head really hurt" the last few days, now its feeling alright." Thanks dipsetmuthafucka Break it out!
Each day, Mike has chosen a different and unlikely spot around gorgeous Hamilton to stage his impromptu performances. He dances in the streets, in schools, the mall, public parks, supermarkets and other local shops. Bystanders often appear nonplussed and usually go about their business as if nothing out of the ordinary was happening. It's great!
Mike describes himself on his blog as a social rocktivist. He says he's anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic, pro-choice, and a pro-party vegan. Sounds good to me. I don't know Mike, but he sounds like a very good hearted person. He says on his blog that he plans to videotape himself dancing all around the world for the next two years, and hopes to some day, "Walk Like An Egyptian" at the foot of the pyramids and dance on "Late Night". Well, who knows where all this dancing will take him! It's fun to watch Mike dance in different locations around Hamilton, and I'm looking forward to his future videos from wherever his dancing feats may lead.
Here's Mikes personally selected Youtube playlist featuring 28 videos that will play continuously. Wow, that's cool...Thanks Youtube! On the first Friday of every month, The Belfast Flying Shoes draws a contra crazy crowd to beat the boards at the American Legion Hall in Belfast, Maine. House caller Chrissy Fowler, along with her contra cohorts, Annadeene Konesni, Tom Fowler, and Phyllis Buchanan keep things under control despite the fact that the place is always packed and the dancing can get pretty boisterous. Live contra music is provided every month by the "All Comers Band", and special guest artists from around New England. Special guest callers are also drawn to Belfast, Maine for the monthly festivities.
Full disclosure: I'm also the webmaster for the Belfast Flying Shoes, and yes, we are sharing the same disco ball on our websites. Well hey, if you wanna have a dance, you gotta have a disco ball!(LINK)
Yelle is a French Electropop singer born in 1985 in Saint-Brieuc, Bretagne. Her music seems to be inspiring a lot of great remixes that can also be found on Youtube. Check out her cute website!(LINK)
You can buy this great music at Calbash Music (LINK) "Ojos de Brujo translates as "eyes of the wizard". It's an appropriate name for a band who attempt to create musical magic. Formed from a collective of young Spanish musicians who use flamenco as a foundation for cross-genre experimentation, Ojos de Brujo incorporate elements of hip-hop, funk, salsa, and reggae into a dynamic flamenco sound."

Lily St. Cyr was a very popular striptease artist of the 1940's and 50's. She began dancing professionally as a chorus line dancer in Hollywood, and went on from there to become an exotic Burlesque star. She began her movie career in 1955 with her appearance in the Howard Hughes production, the Son of Sinbad. After that, she went on to perform in some pretty cheesy exploitation films. Her personal life was also filled with drama and she was a popular personality with the 50's tabloids.
Most of these clips have been uploaded to Youtube by Something Weird Video. They've got a ton of pretty weird exploitation films of every description, including all the Lily St. Cyr classics. LINK www.somethingweird.com
The original and most popular version "Do You Wanna Dance" was written by Bobby Freeman, and recorded by him in 1958. It has since been recorded by countless other performers from all around the world, including The Beach Boys, The Ramones, Bette Midler, The Sharows, The Mammas and Pappas, Jan and Dean, Annie, and many more. The song has also inspired many other song writers to create original, but somewhat derivative versions. Here's a small sample of some different versions.

Grace Jone has earned her iconic status for her tremendous sense of high fashion, her dramatic vocalizations, and her towering stage presence. Though she's not especially known for her dancing ability, she's inspired a lot of dancers around the world with her hypnotic dance floor anthems.
This clip of Grace Jones singing her classic, "Slave to the Rhythm" was from a 2004 charity concert for The Prince of Wales' "The Prince's Trust". The event was in celebration of the career of music producer and composer Trevor Horn, and featured an all star lineup including The Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Seal, Grace Jones, ABC and Lisa Stansfield. That's a lot of great dance music! The concert is being released in June, 2008 as a DVD (PAL only) from ZTT Shop. ZTT of the UK offers a lot of great dance music as CD's through the mail or digital DRM free MP3 downloads.
Grace Jones - Slave to the Rhythm (live performance) Thanks twslex!
Here's a 1985 German TV production featuring Grace Jones lip syncing to the record, interspersed with excerpts from the original music video. Thanks miraculi!
In this dramatic performance of Edith Piaf's "La Vie En Rose", Grace literally does not take a single step as she plays the accordion and belts it out. The song has a great beat, so feel free to step away from the computer for a moment and provide the dancing. Thanks patXIV!
Grace Jones - The Tonight Show, with guest host Joan Rivers (1987) Grace was a big favorite on the talk show circuit, and there's lots of great clips on Youtube. She always looked amazing and she's totally hilarious! Thanks ImpatraZ!

Nice Laxmi moves! Skyler does a nice job of recreating the famous dance sequence from Raja Nawathe's 1965 horror thriller, "Gumnaam". Here's a LINK to Laxmi's appearance with vocalist Mohammed Rafi in the classic music and dance clip, "Jaan Pehechaan Ho"
Jan Pehechaan Ho This jaw dropping music and dance production number has grown in popularity over years since Gumnaam was released in 1965. It features vocals by Mohammed Rafi and amazing dancing by Laxmi Chhaya. This was their only apprearance in the film.
