"Cakewalk music was the Hip Hop of the late 1890s and early 1900s. It was one of the first music forms that had been invented by African Americans which was popular with both blacks and whites.

The cakewalk style was probably started as a mocking imitation by slaves of white slave owners. It evolved into white performers wearing blackface to imitate and often deride blacks. In New Orleans, one of the best known marching "krewes" of Mardi Gras are the Zulus. The Zulus are blacks who started wearing exaggerated blackface in the early 1900s as a way of mocking white people in blackface...who were mocking black people who were originally mocking white slave owners.

While many white performers in blackface did their best to rip off and exploit black culture for their own gain, it is also true that many whites back then were fascinated by black music and dance. The two excellent main dancers in this movie just seem to be enjoying the hell out of themselves. They don't seem to be intentionally trying to make anyone look bad (like so many blackface wearing performers did). Not to excuse them or anything, but sometimes things aren't always just black and white."Thanks eximod

I totally agree with Tommydan1. The commentary in this film is so obnoxious, it's beyond belief. The footage is awesome and there is some great interviews with Helen. It's also interesting to see the condescending attitude that was taken in this film. In some ways, the criticism of the films reminds me of the type of things people said about rock and roll back in the 50's and early 60's.

The Stooges became infamous for their live performances, during which it was not uncommon for Pop (who traditionally performs bare-chested) to consume narcotics, self-mutilate, verbally abuse the audience, expose himself and leap off the stage (thus being among the first to "stage dive"). Countless subsequent performers have imitated Pop's antics.

Pop has had varying degrees of success in the course of his subsequent solo career. His best-known solo songs include "Lust for Life", "I'm Bored", "Real Wild Child", the Top 40 hit "Candy" (with vocalist Kate Pierson of The B-52's)[2] and "The Passenger". A film about Iggy Pop's life and career titled The Passenger is currently in development."

Dil Se (Hindi: िदल से, Urdu: دل سے, translation: From the Heart) is a 1998 Hindi film directed by Mani Ratnam. The film was also released in Tamil as Uyire and Prema Tho in Telugu and stars Shahrukh Khan, Manisha Koirala, and Preity Zinta. Mani Ratnam also wrote the screenplay for the film. The Rasmus is a Finnish rock band that formed in 1994 in Helsinki while the band members were still in high school.[3] The original band members were Lauri Ylönen (lead singer/songwriter), Eero Heinonen (bass), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar) and Janne Heiskanen (drums). Heiskanen quit the band in 1998 and was soon replaced by Aki Hakala.

Before releasing their fourth studio album Into (2001), they were simply known as Rasmus, but changed their name to The Rasmus in order to avoid being confused with a Swedish DJ of the same name. They had a hit in 2003 with "In the Shadows" which reached number 1 in several countries.

The band is one of Finland's most successful bands with more than 3.5 million sold albums worldwide[citation needed], eight gold awards and five platinum awards.[4] They have released six studio albums, one compilation album and 21 singles. Some of the band's most famous songs are the singles "Liquid", "F-F-F-Falling", "In the Shadows", "First Day of My Life", "Funeral Song" , "No Fear" and "Sail Away". The band has recently announced another album, titled "Black Roses" which will go on sale after Summer 2008. Notably, production help from Desmond Child and a duet from Ylönen and Nightwish Singer Anette Olzon will headline the album.
