Barbie Girl Dances

Barbie Girl!

This is a very cheerful and upbeat version of Barbie Girl. The video features "Barbie and Ken" wearing brightly colored wigs. Ken's is bright yellow and Barbie has a pink goldilocks number that matches her outfit. The performance is energetic and expressive with totally convincing lip syncing. Video quality is very good and the audio uses "room sound", which is not too bad and has the added bonus of picking up the sound of the occasional giggle and unexpected surprise finish. Really cute!
Thanks alexpoho!

Barbie Girl Dance.

This surrealistic looking video stands out for it's arresting visual quality. The bedroom set is gorgeous and features rich colors with a deep moody blue wall treatment and just the right amount of carefully chosen decorative elements. The video quality is excellent and the static camera placement has framed the room perfectly. The dance choreography is also exceptional and features completely synchronous Barbie inspired movements performed with precision by a pair of teen age girls that look like bookends. Another great feature of this video that sets it apart is editing. The Barbie Girl song is somewhat repetitive and the girls turn off the camera after about 2 minutes, which is a good amount of time to listen to Barbie Girl if you are not also dancing. While trying to choose a few noteworthy examples of the Barbie Girl dance genre, I've watched quite a few videos and this one is quite exceptional.
Thanks kellychance94!

Barbie Girl Dance by a Soldier in Iraq

This is a great Barbie Girl dance video for a number of reasons. The most obvious thing is that it's totally unexpected. You just don't expect to see soldiers stationed in Iraq to be dancing around the barracks to the Barbie Girl song. It's awesome! Needless to say, the art direction and costuming here is impressive. There's simply no substitute for authenticity and these guys have got it! All the soldiers in the video are sporting matching army issue gray t-shirts that say "ARMY" across the front, and their living quarters are sparsely decorated with wood paneling and gray lockers.

The charismatic lead performer lip syncs both the parts of Ken and Barbie while dancing all around the room. He spontaneously comes up with a lot of great and expressive moves and expertly plays to the camera as it follows him around. Hand held camera work is not easy and it's rare to see it done so well. I've shot a bit of hand held video in my day, and I always thought it took a good sense of rhythm to make it work. Shooting video to music is a dance in it's own right. It's one of those things that when it's bad it looks terrible, but when it's good nobody notices it.

It's nice to see these soldiers having some fun, and I really hope they are all doing well.

Thanks rokinthesaw! They've also got a great air guitar version of Queens's "Bohemian Rhapsody". Click here to break it out!.

Barbie Girl by Aqua is a great dance tune that has inspired a lot of enthusiastic creativity. There are literally thousands of Barbie Girl dance videos on Youtube with new ones added every day. It seems that Barbie Girl by Aqua is a true classic that strikes an emotional chord with people of all ages from various walks of life, all around the world. Who would of thunk it?

Gypsy Dance

This is a really sweet video produced by Solarnet , an international non-profit group dedicated to global learning, media literacy, and environmental sustainability. From the website: "Solar Net provides an international network of young people working together on the issues of cultural exchange, environmental protection and media education. "

This video features a group of about a dozen young women dancing together in very colorful costumes. The video and sound quality is excellent and the camera angles and editing appear to be very professionally done, even though it was evidently a somewhat spontaneous production. Solarnet has produced many great, educational videos that are also available on Youtube. They offer language how-to's and much more. All their videos are very well produced, informative, and purposeful. If you are looking for some hope and inspiration, you won't be disappointed. (Link to the videos on Youtube)

Here's a bit more detail about the presentation:

In July 2006 we hold the first german-polish youth-media seminar, organized in cooperation of Solar Net International and Palace of Youth in Katowice. Our group was part of the 7th International Meeting of Youth "Europe of Peace".

We met there a group of girls from Slovakia who participated in the event. They organized a slovakian-polish Dance Workshop. The girls are students of Renata Madaraszova school of arts from Senec near Bratislava.

We have spontaneously decided to make a videoclip of the dancing girls. They do a gypsy dance. We did it with one cheap photo camera and edited it very quickly by synchronizing 4 or 5 tracks and then just choosing sequences we wanted to keep.

Next year they want to establish kind of applied internet media subject in their school so I hope we are going to see and hear more from them

Thanks magauchsein!

Bran D

Bran D, also known as Brandon D Black is a very talented and ambitious young man from Pompano Beach, Florida. He's got over 70 videos on Youtube that show the wide range of his creative talents. He's got a lot of great dance moves, he's really funny, and he's a very creative video producer with a gift for media management and promotion. He's been a contestant on American Idol and is available for bookings. Bran D's combination of extremely agile dancing ability and comedic acting talent reminds me a little bit of the great Bollywood star, Kamal Hassan. You just don't see that many people who are really funny and can dance that well. In addition to his Youtube presence, he's also on MySpace(LINK).

He's got so many videos, it was tough to choose, so make sure to check out his Youtube page for more videos.(BrandonDBlack!)

Reggaeton

Reggaeton has been around since the early 90's and has deep roots in a lot of different musical styles from Reggae to bomba, plena, salsa, merengue, latin pop and bachata, hip hop, R&B, and electronica. What has emerged is a very distinctive sound and rhythm, characterized by it's Dem Bow beat and often explicit hip hop style lyrics. Reggaeton really makes you want to dance, and seems to inspire a lot of passionate emotions. I love the Reggaeton sound, but I'm no expert so if you want to learn more you might want to read the Wikipedia article about it. Luckily, you don't need to be an authority on the subject to enjoy the sexy Reggaeton beat!

RhiannanNichole has great moves and really good taste in music. This video features "Friction" by Morcheeba.

OK, so I just discovered that pole dancing is big on Youtube. Yeah, it's sexy. So what, all dancing is actually pretty sexy. Pole dancing is really incredibly well suited to Youtube self expression for a number of reasons. An individual is able to perform an extremely athletic and demanding form of dance in a very small and limited space. The static camera placement on a tripod has the effect of really showing off the specifics of the movement, and the one-take unedited performance is completely unforgiving of anything short of athletic and artistic perfection. The performance is real and anyone who is attempting to do this will not be able to fake it! That's a good incentive for a dedicated performer to put in the time needed to overcome gravity and master the art of pole dancing.

It also seems empowering to women for a number of reasons, the most obvious one being that it's probably not a good idea for guys to try this for health and safety reasons.

Pole dancing with Tara Karina

pole dancing clips (Fergalicous - Fergie)

TaraKarina is really into pole dancing. She is well aware of the negative connotations that go along with art form and makes a strong statement about it at her Youtube homepage. She basically says she's heard it all before and just get the hell over it. She also explains that she began pole dancing to help her deal with a debilitating anxiety disorder. Well, it must be working if she is able to do all this scary looking athletic dancing and post the videos onto Youtube. If you're really inspired, she has some great how-to videos that will give step-by-step instructions on how to do the moves. It looks like you better in pretty good shape before attempting any of this at home!

Thanks TaraKarina, keep up the good work!

Black Eyed Peas - Lets Get It Started (Live)

Sexy dance party tune, "Here I come" featuring Fergie.

Fergie - Glamorous (Full HQ Version)

Pink performs "Get This Party Started", live in Wembley on her "I'm Not Dead Tour". This is a great dance tune and the athletic dancing in this stunning live show is off the charts and totally off the stage! Pink is so under rated.

Shirley Bassey does a highly danceable version of "Get This Party Started".

Say Shava Shava

Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham- Say Shava Shava ( With Extra )

Thanks usmaandin!

From the Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, directed by Karan Johar. The music was composed by the Jatin Lalit, lyrics by Sameer and sung by Sudesh Bhonsle, Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan.

This is a highly energetic dance number with a cast of hundreds. Some of the dance steps seem to be reminiscent of Chubby Checker's, "The Twist". "This one's for you, Raoul... Everybody, Say Shava Shava!

Family Style!

Thanks mistrycy!

Here's a great live, stage show version.

Thanks knj1090!

Here's a mashup that "borrows" the Say Shava Shava movie footage, and re-edits it onto another great song. The video quality is pretty bad, and the song cuts off at the end but it's a great tune and still worth checking out.

Chubby Checker - Let's Twist Again

This is the original 1960 video of Chubby Checker doing the twist. It's a pretty stark video with no other dancers or musicians in sight. Chubby's pretty laid back, but he can really twist!

Indian Version Of The Twist

Vintage Bollywood version of the twist.

Congo - Fally Ipupa - Mabele

This is a great tune, with a mesmerizing dance oriented video treatment. The dancing is pretty cool and understated. The art direction and costumes are beautifully coordinated in luscious coffee colored shades of brown, featuring a multitude of textures and patterns. The camera seems to be moving around the stage along with the dancers, and the kaleidascopic special effects add a nice touch as well. Idamawatu uploaded this video and has over 1300 other videos posted on Youtube. (LINK)

Wedding first dance w/ surprise Jack Johnson Michael Jack

This surprising wedding first dance is a Youtube classic with nearly 5 million views. Norm and Renee totally surprised and delighted their guests when they broke into this Michael Jackson style, well choreographed yet spontaneous looking dance number. The video features authentic bride and groom attire, and a great cast of enthusiastic reception attendees.

Dola Re Dola

"Dola Re Dola" is a stunning production dance number from the big budget, award winning, Bollywood extravaganza, "Devdas" directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Madhuri Dixit in the leading roles.

This colossal dance number has inspired a number of amateur and professional interpretations, and it's easy to see why! The choreography, the costumes, the set, the cinematography, editing and music are all so outstanding, this must be the best dance sequence ever filmed! The song itself is so good, you could listen to it over and over again all day, and the rhythm is so intoxicating it makes you want to dance. There are a lot of intricate dance moves and hand gestures that would take a huge effort to learn, so it's very impressive to see anyone attempt it. Watching this film clip and the dancers who have been inspired by it has been an uplifting experience.

Dola Re Dola movie clip

Thanks stormynight219!

Kiradance

Kiradance was inspired to learn the entire choreography of Dola Re Dola, and practiced until she was able to complete the number as the DVD played on her TV. Her dancing is excellent, and her adorable costume perfectly matches the furniture in her living room. Camera quality and placement is also excellent and Kiradance makes excellent use of her limited floor space and the rectangular viewing area defined by the camera frame. Her video made quite a splash on Youtube and has been viewed over 200,000 times!

Thanks Kiradance, keep up the good work!

jor87

This is a great dance mashup that mixes up Dola Re Dola with the Tom Cruise underwear dancing in your living room approach. Jor87 says he spent 2 weeks learning the dance, but is not satisfied with the results. I think he's being too hard on himself. He's got some well articulated dance moves, a great "bermuda shorts" motiff, costume, nice living room set with an achway flanked by 2 giant houseplants. Video and sound quality are pretty shakey, but watchable.

Thanks jor87, keep up the good work!

Mina produced this colorful and lively version of Dola Re Dola. This video has excellent production values featuring good video and sound, a breezy and charming Victorian looking themed bedroom setting, along with a matching costume. The dancing is very expressive and athletic, while the choreography makes good use of the available floor space in the room. I got tired just watching it!

Thanks DeathStarNightmare!

The Sequel of Hamster Dance - Jonas Dance!

Bri and Bobby are back with a sequel to the Hamster Dance. This video features several rockin tunes, and Briannabananaaa joins Bobby on the dance floor. Once again, the choreography makes good use of the space and available props. There's a lot of leaping off the furniture, and an excellent use of near and far action in relation to the camera. The family dog makes a guest appearance, and the there's also a brief walk-on by a fluffy cat who seems to be looking for a place to hide. In addition to the music and dancing, there is also some great behind the scenes action and a wild rockin and rollin finish!

Hamster Dance!

Briannabananaaa directs her neighbor, Bobby in this highly energetic and spontaneous solo performance. The video features lively choreography, excellent hand held camera work, clever editing, and pro quality sound! Bobby makes good use of the cozy living room space and available props while coming up with some amazing moves and a dynamite finish.

What's It All About?

Let's Dance, Say Shava Shava!

Tube Dancer is a dance blog featuring an eclectic collection of videos that are about dancing, and music videos that are good for dancing. My goal is to create a fun and useful field guide to dance related videos that can be found on Youtube and around the web. I encourage anyone who visits this site to take a little moment to give it up to the rhythm, step away from the computer and dance to the music! It's a good, healthy way to break up the web worker day.

Let's Dance music by David Bowie(remix)

The original music video of "Let's Dance" by David Bowie from the early 80's ironically features no dancing, so thankfully, Director Sam Akina and Director of Photography Ben Niles got together to produce an updated version of the song that includes a lot of great dancing.

Dancing With Myself music video by Billy Idol

Thanks DannyVicious

I'm not focusing on any particular dance style and will try to feature examples of every type of dancing that I can think of. It's a huge subject and a ridiculous challenge that only a true ignoramus would attempt. I am not an expert on dance and have no educational background on the history or theory of dancing. I am also one of the world's worst dancers and I'm in awe of the people who can actually dance. It's all just for fun, and I hope it's fun for people to browse through the archives. Any commentary that I include with the videos should be taken with a grain of salt, because I speak with no authority and have no idea what I'm talking about.

I am not trying to be a dance critic. I can tell that some people are better dancers than others and I appreciate excellent choreography, but in no way am I pretending to be even slightly knowledgeable. This is more of a random scrapbook about dancing. Amateur and professional dancers will all be sharing the same stage here. I have the greatest respect for every dancer will try to include as many examples and variations as I can find. As far as I am concerned, "it's all good!"
